Each moment is all we need.

“Be happy in the moment, that’s enough. Each moment is all we need, not more.”
― Mother Teresa

We spend so much time trying to be happy. But the more we strive for happiness, the more it feels out of reach.

Anyone can access contentment by being present in this moment. Observe the positioning of your feet and hands. Notice and acknowledge sensations throughout your body – whether they be tension, pain, relaxation, lightness, or heaviness. Notice your environment – the temperature in the room, the color of the walls, the furniture. Notice if you categorize things as beautiful or ugly. Notice if you judge yourself for categorizing, or for other reasons. Listen for all the sounds you hear.

If you are doing these things and you notice that you are not content, you are likely thinking too much. Gently draw your attention away from your thoughts and back to what is happening right now. The present moment is miraculous. You are alive. You are breathing. Your heart is pumping blood to all organs of your body. Your body and mind are currently healing themselves, as is their natural state. You are connected to all beings in the universe, and they to you. You are here, now. This moment is all you need.
